Work of Elden Ring Runes - Activating Great Runes in Elden Ring
Work of Elden Ring bosses often drop Great Rune items that can be activated to provide powerful yet limited buffs. To activate one, players need to travel back to the Divine Tower for their region from which they received it and activate it there.
As opposed to previous FromSoftware titles, where embers, humanity, or effigies had an infinite lifespan; with Great Runes they have only lasting effects until your death.
Rune Arcs
Elden Ring offers players a special consumable known as a Rune Arc that grants access to powerful Great Runes that provide numerous advantages to them in Elden Ring.
Player will come across these consumable items early in the game as rewards for killing Shardbearer bosses, such as Godrick or Malenia, or beating Host of Fingers invaders during multiplayer gameplay. Furthermore, these consumable items may occasionally drop from rats in Subterranean Shunning-Grounds and Cliffbottom Catacombs or be available from merchants in Leyndell or Royal Capital as rare drops or purchases from merchants.
Once a player acquires one of these consumable items, they should visit the Divine Tower associated with their chosen Great elden ring runes in order to activate its effects. Although this might sound complicated, the process is actually very straightforward - simply purify a Great Rune before equipping it for permanent activation! Once that process has taken place, its effects remain active during your life span.
Attributes
As you engage in combat and complete quests, your character will gain experience and level up - increasing their Attribute stats as well as permitting upgrades of equipment and abilities.
Players start the game with eight Attributes that develop offensive and defensive skills, which can be further strengthened through Runes found at Sites of Grace across The Lands Between.

All these can be further improved by leveling them up at any Site of Grace in the Lands Between; just keep in mind that any change made at these spots will be permanent unless using a Larval Tear which unlocks later in the game.
Level Up
As players successfully defeat enemies in the Lands Between, they earn Runes that can be used to level up one of eight Attributes of their character and increase overall character level as they do so.
FromSoftware's 2022 Game of the Year winner Elden Ring features an immense open world that requires players to level up. However, its open world also provides various methods of quickly gathering Runes - essential if players wish to take on all its big bosses and dangerous new areas in an effective manner.
Fighting foes awards a small amount of elden ring runes, while taking on area bosses yields even more. There are also consumable items like Tarnished's Furled Finger and Small Golden Effigy which increase a player's rune gain by a small percentage; but for maximum Rune accumulation the easiest way is playing co-op, where summoning pools allow players to quickly join together against difficult areas or bosses and earn instantaneous Rune rewards by killing enemies while helping each other combat them simultaneously!
Awakening
